Embedded Future Storage is a planned open specification, royalty free filesystem. Designed for large portable media.

E-FS is a direct competitor to Microsoft's exFAT, but aims to be of no cost to any company. The E-FS project will provide freely available specifications to the format, as well as free reference implementations to common platforms, including:

  • Windows.
  • Linux.
  • Macintosh.
  • FullFAT (FullFAT will integrate optional support for E-FS).
  • Simple generic implementations (rather like FullFAT today).
